Layout and the conceptual framework design of de Verenigde Sandbergen, the magazine of the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam, masters of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
The conceptual framework for the new design is a critique on today’s advertising-culture, which gradually makes the contemporary man lazy. We find ourselves in a culture where printed matter is expected to make the buyer seize the content not more than a computer clicking time. Bodoni for fashion, helvetica for hipsters, and garamond for economists. De Verenigde Sandbergen wants to distance itself from these common frames of reference that everyone obeys without further questioning. Designed as a stack of previously printed documents, the design confuses the reader due to the impossibility of placing it in what he or she recognizes in advance
